Sevenoaks ladies 1st welcomed Trojans to Hollybush Astro for their Sunday league fixture this weekend. With both clubs tying to close in towards the top spot in the table, it was always going to be a furiously fought game.
The visitors were quick off the mark and did their best to upset sevenoaks’ impenetrable defence with quick counter attacks but they never quite managed to outwit the home sides back line.
Susie, Tara and Lily’s superior stick skills and ability to pick up any lose ball was then converted up pitch through the work-horses in mid field who were able to drive past players and pick out the forwards. With some sensational balls through the circle with Maddie and Maeve diving across the D to connect with both just missing their target.
Both goals were scored from calmly taken set pieces. Lily scores from a beautiful straight strike in our first short corner and Susie’s reverse strike was deflected into the net by Sophie and was rightly allowed after an initial review for dangerous play.
In the second half Sevenoaks dominated the opposition with great linking play displaying some superb individual stick skills.
Upfront each if the forwards were working the space well with some great leads and driving hits into the circle.
This superb result has pushed Sevenoaks into a close second place in the league, by just one point, but they still have a game in hand!
Next week we take on reading away who are currently top of the league so it will be a very tough match.
