Sevenoaks Women’s 1st XI are very much looking forward to the new season, playing in Division 1 (South) of the Vitality National League – just one level below the Premier Division. The team are proud of last season’s runners up spot, but acknowledge that this will create high expectations for this season and make them more of a target for opposing teams.
The team and Club are fortunate to benefit from the experience of highly experienced & knowledgeable ex international players. Top level coaching to the 1st XI is currently delivered by triple South African Olympian, Jen Wilson. Under her direction the club can also call upon other resources to support the 1st XI, notably ex-GB captain and long standing club member, Sue Chandler, with specialist GK coaching offered by Dave Sharp.
Having achieved the aim of consolidating its position within Division 1, the team is looking to develop further, with the ultimate ambition of targeting Premiership hockey – an ambition that was so close to being achieved last season. The core of the team has amassed a high level of experience gained playing at the elite levels of domestic and, in some cases, international hockey. Additionally, the squad will again look to provide experience to juniors, some of whom are already members of the England Age Group squads. However, this will be a challenging league and there are other clubs in the league who share similar aspirations and who have recruited strongly over the summer. This promises to be another exciting and competitive campaign!
Indoors, the team plays in Division One, and will be looking to regain its place in the Premier Division.
The club plays at Hollybush Lane where a top level ‘Tiger turf’ Astro pitch supports the highest standard of play. A new video camera has been installed this summer, underlining the club’s commitments to maintaining and improving its facilities.
The main training session takes place on Wednesday evenings, with skill based & video sessions in addition.
The squad is keen to recruit players who are committed to joining a club which offers elite level hockey within an established environment of inclusivity, offering hockey for all levels.
