Sevenoaks will compete in the England Hockey National Division One South for the 2023/24 season, representing the second highest division in the club hockey national structure.
Oaks fairly recently had a taste of the Premier League, for the first time in the club’s history, during a two-year spell at the top-table of domestic hockey, and there is a strong desire from the squad to get back to that level. After a four year spell as player-coach, we bid farewell to former South African international Ian Haley, who has relocated to Germany with his family over the summer. However, we're delighted that fellow South African Martin Schouten has joined the club as Director of Hockey and Men's 1st XI Head Coach. Martin brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as Reading Women's 1st XI Head Coach and his current role of Senior Men's Assistant Coach and Men's U21 Head Coach at Hockey Wales.
As well as competing in National Division One South, we will be playing in the National Indoor Premier League for the eleventh consecutive season, cementing us as one of the top indoor sides in the country. Last season we finished fifth, narrowly missing out on a place at Finals Day. On four occasions we have finished in the top four and qualified for Finals Day but have yet to progress beyond the semi-final stage. We’ll be looking to improve on our record this season.
We are based in Kent, only a short train journey from central London (20-25 minutes from London Bridge) and play on a superb hybrid pitch at Hollybush Lane, close to the centre of Sevenoaks.
Craig Morton and Kieran Walton will co-captain the team this season. Craig has been a valued member of the team for a number of seasons after moving south from Scotland, whilst Kieran has been a lifelong Sevenoaks Hockey Club member, progressing through the junior ranks and returning to the club after a spell at the University of Exeter.
The squad is blessed with a number of talented players and we are immensely proud that almost half the squad are products of our thriving junior section. We look forward to welcoming some of the next batch of impressive youngsters into the squad over the coming years. With the ambition of returning to the outdoor Premier League and challenging for indoor honours, it could not be a more exciting time to be part of Sevenoaks Hockey Club!
If you would be interested in joining us, please get in touch with any of the contacts above. We’d love to have you along!
As an amateur family club we are currently almost entirely funded by player subscription fees, sponsorship and voluntary fundraising and we want to keep it that way. As such we are looking to raise further money to help meet the costs of pushing for Premier League Hockey. If you would be interested in sponsoring the team or an individual squad member then please get in contact with Martin Schouten. For all other club sponsorship enquiries please see the sponsorship section of the website for information, or contact comms@sevenoakshockey.club.
